David, the handsome Rosenthal brother, AKA Professor of the Black and White, plays keys for the ensemble... David enjoys writing originals and has played with the bands Beat Road and Bonobo Secret Handshake in addition to working with other local Madison musicians. Although he has been steeped in various cultures, travels extensively, and has lived in Alaska and Australia, David has learned little from such adventures and only wishes to play the song Louie Louie very loudly. David feels he should credit his wife Margaret for his musical successes because she says so. David very much appreciates the camaraderie and community that Doors of Perception bring to his life.
Kevin is the world's best bass player and knows every song ever written. He plays with local jazz group, Trio Soleil, and formed the backbone of The Last Gaspe and Care of the Cow. Until you've heard his closing solo on St. James Infirmary, I'm not sure it can be accurately stated that you've truly lived. Kevin's soulful vocals make us all tear up at one point or another in the show, and when he kicks it into high gear on Steve Earle's After Mardi Gras or Neil Young's Cortez the Killer, look out!
Marc, the handsome Rosenthal brother, provides harmonica and vocals for the ensemble... Marc blows such righteous blues it sings to the very heart of the earth and all beings. His tripped-out sounds open doors to psychic interiors never before experienced (reference to DOORS of Perception). ... Marc has played with the bands Beat Road and Bonobo Secret Handshake and has played music around the Madison area for decades. A retired ER nurse, he asked his life partner Julie if he could quit his day job to play music. The answer, "Not today," went on for some 35 years. Well he is retired now! A warrior for peace and justice, Marc devotes his music to the struggle, community, love, solidarity and having fun.
Maury's been playing stringed things, writing songs and singing them right out loud since the end of the Neolithic period. He's played with Al Rose and the Transcendos since their inception, as well as the Clark Anderson Trio, the Little Lebowski Under Achievers with Jesse Patrick and Hedgerow Dinkum with kevin Clark back in the day. He currently gigs with Clay Yapp as The CedarTones and Kevin Clark and Jacoba Epstein in Trio Soleil. Maury's solo work can be found at BistroMirage.com.
